Sainte Mère Eglise and Sainte Marie du Mont in Normandy, near Utah Beach are the first two towns liberated by the Allies on D-Day, June 6, 1944. Sainte Mère Eglise by American paratroopers, St. Marie du Mount by the sea landing.

In this place where so many men paid with their lives for freedom and human dignity, during the liberation of Normandy and Europe in 1944 …

Sainte Mère Eglise  is famed by the American parachutist John Steel remained attached to the church tower and detached by the German soldier Robert May. A mannequin, a dummy depicting this parachutist hanging from the bell tower is reminiscent of D-Day.

More than five hundred thousand tourists, visitors, pilgrims from different regions of France, Europe and America flock there all seasons and especially from March-April to October-November each year.
